Twitter app on Swoot

So we are working on a Twitter app.
Of course we are, what took us so long?

We started a couple of weeks ago,and as it appears, it's a challenge.
We are developing three different versions.
What seems to be the issue, Twitter restricted the number of sessions per user back to 30 an hour. This means, when you start your app, login, go to i.e.your followers, these are all backend sessions. Once started you have completed 6 sessions. When you decide to go to your followers, every 100 is one session. So if you have 1000 followers, going to your followers page is 10 sessions.
A bit of a problem. But we'll fix it one way or the other.
In the mean time , one of our twitter developers, Feike , is turning blue, literaly. Check out his matching twitter shirt ( colour) on the photo!

We'll keep you posted, the apps are to be expected within a week.

rest of the US trip

We arrived in San Francisco on sunday, very beautiful day out there.
A little broken after a 6 hours flight. But ready for another crazy and great week!

Monday morning , meeting with Edward Lambert from BridgeBank in Palo Alto and Ella van Gool from DLA Piper. Very interesting meeting, we got some great insights in how the funding process works in the US / Sillicon Valley. New meeting planned with DLA to meet the lawyers there, and an intro to Peter from NBSO/EVD in Sillicon Valley.....

Meeting Agency.com later, took the long walking way there, what a hike!! Up the hill also...
We showed it and were out in 10min. No time to waste...
Meeting Sherrie Perkovich for drinks and food. Great restaurant and some interesting intro's to start the partnerships and deals in SF.

Tuesday, tried to find a meetup in Palo Alto, couldn't find it. Will do the next one the day after.
A quick go the Ad Tech conference, out in 10min again, way to crowded....

Up for the next one, meeting Mark Anders at Adobe. Nice long talk about all kind of stuff, very interesting.
Next drinks with Aydin Senkut. He's such a good fellow. Intro'd us to Microsoft later the week.
Link
Wednesday, meeting David Riemer for coffee, we actually met him on the plane. He's former Yahoo VP. Interesting and some intro's for later the week
Meeting Shelly Palmer. Great guy, he will look into some opp. for us and offered help in many ways... so cool!
Meeting Scott from Mochilla, great startup, we like to collaborate with them on some stuff.

Up to DLA again in Palo Alto, talks with the Lawyer and Ella again. Follow up is the meetup in the DLA building as well. Inbetween we met with the guys from Warpshare. Great concept. Try to work out a collaboration project.

Thursday, First meeting Spongecell guys at their SF office , then meeting Sproutbuilder and then of to meeting David again in Palo Alto. Coffee and intro to VMDevice. They are doing such amazing stuff. Great concept. love to work together as they get further to launching.

And off to Microsoft buildings in Moutain View. Exciting talks and possible partnerships are thinkable, follow up on that and see where that may lead to!

Friday morning last meeting before taking off to Holland again, meeting Azure Capital, great guys and a very fruitfull meeting..... story continues...

Back in the US in June.... probably an even more exciting trip.... is that possible!??

We'll see!!

another day in the city

Update on NYC

We arrived in NYC thursday after a 3,5 hours drive with a bus called the Limoliner. Amazing bus, with leather seats, thirst class service and last but not least, internet on board. how cool is that.
Link
Meeting with David Blumenstein first, amazing meeting, he helped us dealing with a swoot consumer issue, ot of the blue he just gave the perfect idea we were struggling with for a while.
After that up to the Hotel, all the way down to Long Island. It was hot and we had to walk half an hour before we finally found the hotel.....!

At 6.30 we met Brett Petersell, Christopher Prince Boucher , Oz Sultan and the guys from Kickapps for drinks at the Australian mid 30's bar.

Friday, up early, first off to meeting Terence Dover from TXT tunes at the Soho Grand Hotel, as always the perfect spot to meet. Than off to Halo Ventures and Spongecell In Tribeca.
After a quick visit we had to go to Cooley on Ave of the Americas. What a crazy building, and great people.
Supposed to meet Shelly Palmer, but got set to next week in SF instead!
After that meeting with Bad Boy Records, figuring out what concept to build together. And finally after a long and succesfull day beers with Jeffrey Neu , a very cool tech oriented lawyer....

Now up for a goodnight sleep and breakfastand lunch meetings again tomorrow....
See what happens then!!

Boston 1st day

We had our first day on the AlwaysOn summit in Boston, in the four seasons Hotel.
We followed a couple of the panel presentations. The Financial satback in the US is really an issue..

We did our presentation yesterday afternoon. It went very well. 6 minutes is so short though!
But we made it.

After installing in our after-presentation booth we finally got to talk to a lot of VC's and financial guys. Very interesting. We got a lot of compliments on Swoot, they like it a lot. We made many new best friends....!!

And of course an afterparty again. With the bus to Boston South.

Talked to some very interesting people and other webconcepts to work with.
I will update later on the ones I found interesting.

I got to meet Mikhail from Halo Ventures again. very nice guy with an amazing network.
They invested in on of our co-presenters,> Spongecell!
interesting concept, even to work with for Swoot. See what happens, talking again today!

what happened with the google shares

Google shares dropped down from a 711 dollar in november to a low of 464 yesterday.
A drop of 40%, where did this come from?

The 464 dollar is the same as october 2006.

One of the main reasons seem to be the fact that consumers click on advertising a lot less than they used to do in the last two years.

As always said , google is in the search market, which is a changing landscape and will be even more in the next coming 12 months. Search and more detailed " advertising on search" will change a lot.

which social networks are populair where?

Just got back from a week of business in NY. Still pretty exhausted and tired, but we'll recovering!!
Here's a small update about this amazing week.

Monday 14th > arrived at noon and we're supposed to be speaking on Brett Petersell and Oz Sultan's WEB2.0 meetup. Got there on time, great place and lot's of people attending! We did a great presentation and had fun afterwards, met a bunch of nice people. Brett and OZ, thanks for a great night. I think the recording and photo's will come tomorow!

Tuesday, found this great little coffeeplace on greene st, called "aroma" , best coffee and free wifi , then a conference call with Shelly Palmer, great insights from a men who's knowledge and competence is enormous! , then we we're up to meet Susan Rosenthal for lunch downtown, what an amazing woman this is, we had a very interesting conversation and will definitely start working together! Later on the day we had a meeting with Jonathan Vanasco from Findmeon.com. Worked on some details on collaborating with his amazing technology.

Of course drinks at night, should have met Emily Warren from the webby awards crew, but missed out on eachother!

Wednesday we started with a meeting with the Barbarian Group crew, fantastic people with a great company, we will collaborate them with our swoot technology to bring to their clients, after this a great meeting with tippingpoint ventures. awesome investment group who totally gets our product and ambitions. Aferwards had our drinks with Emily in the Soho Grand, which actually became our little temporary " NY office".
We were on to have diners at night, our new sales guy just arrived for his 1st year wedding anniversary with his wife, met at his place and had great diner, surprisingly we ran into Oz Sultan at this place, who joined us for diner with his friend!

Thursday a big day for us, we had a meeting scheduled with the NBA, how awesome to be there!
The rest of the day meetings and calls with people who can help us in NY with all kind of things, after diner we met again with Oz Sultan and Jonathan Vanasco, had a great night and will intensively start cooperating with these guys!

Friday, a busy and short day, supposed to meet at bad boy records, but time wasn't on our side, we had to leave pretty early for our flight home. So a conference call is scheduled on monday!

Got a great flight home, best seats in the plane and was on time!

microsoft photosynth

A couple of months ago we had the chance to play around with Microsoft Photosynth a little bit.
And I have to admit , very impressive!!

It is amazing how easy and secure the photosynth software operates.

We are fortunate that we're invited to the microsoft technology lab end of january to play around with the new Microsoft technologies some more. See what what kind of mashup we can build with the Swoot technology!

Here's a video of the photosynth that shows the possiblities!

Webpredictions by don hinchcliffe

100 things we didn't know last year by BBC

Internet , a new year!

What is going to happen in the internet industry, which companies will evolve, which will fall down on their current status!?

I have read all the posts last week about the predictions, some lame, some great!

What do I think:

1) don't predict a whole year, no one is that good! believe me!

2) Digg will be sold , very soon!

3) following up on 2 > great things to happen for Pownce after nr 2 has been done!

4) facebook will grow even more, my space will lose more to facebook, but also to another new one ( could be nr 3)

5) Open Social, yeah! But not the Google one, Facebook is doing great in that matter and will evolve, the rest needs to follow and try to improve!

6) Google , yeah still great, but a new social search site is about to rise, the next gen. search should be coming up! The Google Role in this can still be amazing, depends on their strategy and focus!

7) You tube will lose more users if they fail to make the youtube 2.0 version, it has to evolve now in order to keep up with the upcoming competition!

8) Ads will decrease even more in click through ratio and bannering will be out of grace within time! New Ad possibilities will arise!

9) DESKTOP APPS will ARISE! Finally and thanks to all the players on this field, this will evolve major. Widgets have cleared the path, now the next step needs to be taken, interesting thing will be what will happen with Air and of course what the big ones like i.e. Google and yahoo will do in this matter!!

Enough, all of this is pure speculation. One thing we did learned over the years, Internet is pretty much unpredictible!
Users are the number one group to decide for hot or not's!!

New year and what will happen next!!

Hi Everyone,

Up for a new Swoot year for me.

New things to happen, new adventures to come this year. It is predicted and set to be an amazing year. There are so many things that are happening as we speak ( write)!

We are going to move to a new location next month. about 100 metres from our current location, but twice the size!

We will settle our company in NY next month, Glenn Pennock will be moving there with 3 others.
We are about to do some great business projects in NY.
I will post about that within the next few weeks and keep you posted.

Our business model is also growing fast the last few months. We sell commercial licenses of the swoot product now for only 1960 euro's. This price is so cheap everyone is enthusiastic to create new things on the technology!

We closed some great deals with amazing brands worlwide which will launch in the next months their great desktop environments.

We will launch some amazing new features this next upcoming months, i.e. a personal remote for on your dekstop, sharable with your friends, an easy editor to build a swoot app, launch of the next gen E-cards!!

All great things if you ask me!!

Official Monteverdi.tv release

Dear classical music lover,

As you probably know, in this past ½ year Swoot has been putting an enormous lot of time and energy into the development of MonteVerdi.tv for our customer CommuniServe, an all-encompassing Internet platform for classical music lovers.

The official launch of www.MonteVerdi.tv will be early 2008, but I herewith invite you to visit a unique and brand-new site: MonteVerdi.tv - first comprehensive Internet platform for classical music. It enables you to enjoy TV shows and documentaries, a huge downloadable audio catalogue, news, reviews, video clips, and hundreds of classical radio stations. It also has a first-class web shop where you can buy CD’s, DVD’s, books, and sheet music. You see, they just went online in their beta version, but they are dying to tell the world about it.

They’ve been asking colleagues and acquaintances to spread the news among their subscribers, members, etcetera. And off course we do so.

Furthermore, MonteVerdi is a great place to share your knowledge, enthusiasm, and preferences with others. Sounds good? You are more than welcome to see and hear what they have in store for you at www.MonteVerdi.tv.

Tell a friend
Would you like to do another music lover a favour by sharing the news about MonteVerdi? Easy: just click the button ‘Tell a friend’, below this message.

DIGG it, or not!

Digg for sale!

The rumours were already longer in the press. What's the story

There is a note that investment bank Allen & Company have received the project to sell the company for 300 million dollar, probably to the highest bid.
Is this worth it. In figures and spreadsheets perhaps not, but as we already know and learned over the past years, this doesn't really count.
It completely depends on the buyer and how much " back to the future" they achieve by buying the " users" from Digg!

So an interesting case will follow soon.

This will probably also mean that pownce will receive the full attention after the sale!

The best wishes to the Digg guys may be in place for now, see what happens.

is my space linked in with Rupert Murdoch

What is going to happen to linkedin. They are definitely on the radar to be bought, perhaps by Rupert Murdoch. Will this be to help MySpace win back from the Facebook popularity.

Linkedin is still growing strong and is sure to be the best Business network around. Lok around, try some names on Linkedin and you'll find them.
But in the end i think the interactivity is too low for really using it more often.

An interesting prediction I read about last week was, " Will Facebook have more business contacts then Linkedin" . My answer would be " YES" .
if I see the activity on the Facebook within the business network on Facebook, this will take place.

I looked at myself and my own actions, I do both now, I look up for the new contact omn Linkedin and also check him/her on Facebook.

So , that being said and done, why do you want to buy Linkedin then?
What is the " up" for someone like Rupert Murdoch. Just a new separate business model, or integrate it with the MySpace plans??

Interesting , I'll keep on following this

HULU, here it is

‘NBC Universal and News Corp. have yet to name the joint- venture and for the moment it is being called New Site, now we call it HULU.....

Providence equity has put in 100 mio dollar to launch the youtube killer.

Will this challenge be real?

Let's forget the name and don't spend the Michael Arrington hours in it to discuss that, let's focus on the goals

What will they have to do to become the next 1 billion dollar initiative.
Have the greatest content, be easy, free or the best design?

Bokardo wrote an interesting post about it, : what it you tube was just lucky?

How does the buzz work and where and what are the moments of truth of the buzz.
Perhaps the answer for Bokardo´s blog will come when HULU becomes the next big thing, or won´t become this.

I really don´t have the answer. And why do they think there´s still a market to grab or to win new users.
What will the user interface be, what is the target group, who can do what in user generated content on the site?
A lot of questions, less answers. but we will try the beta and see what happens!

FOWA

The organisation of Future of WebApps is setting up a road show.

They will do 12 cities prior to the event on 3-5 october.
The previous one was a big hit, so the machine will run again this year.

Again an impressive list of speakers and attendees.

We will also try to be there again....

But first the road show. on the 17th september they will be here in Amsterdam in Cafe de Jaren,
Thanks to Robert Gaal of Wakoopa/blueace for that

Ryan Carson will do all the roadtrips.

A preview here:

Allofmp3 back on track!

Will Allofmp3 just come back, according to them they will be back in the foreseeable future.

Why the statement, they won the legal case of 15th august, or so the court ruled that the previous CEO was not guilty of breaching Russian copyright laws, and therefore the AllofMP3 service was legal.

EMI, NBC Universal and Time Warner where the big guys leading the dance of the legal matter.

What will follow now, Allofmp3 reopening without any changes. This will turn the music world upside down.
And will lead many players to russia to copycat!

Interesting, we will follow the matter!

news from the swoot front

Back to blog again after an amazing period. of course the holiday season should be more quiet. We experienced pretty much the opposite.

what happened:

We are currently in progress to take the next step with our company. We will go live in the US within a month, with an office and a cooperation with some great people. More to follow soon!

We almost finished our portal website and continued working on the swoot community. Portal will go out of beta within the next weeks. The community will go live in beta within the same couple of weeks. Do you want to be a test user for the sowot community, let me know!

Furthermore our partner in Belgium launched the comic browser for the Kiekeboe comics.

Our new plugin is live and working great. If you already have the plugin. go to start, go to TAC, uninstall this and install the new one.
This new plugin provides unlimited creativity for builders of RIA applics on the TAC technology. We call them Taccel's now. So if you build some great stuff with the Swoot TAC technology, you call it a Taccel!!

Our company Futiball launched their new remote control and portal website > detail story will follow!

We also closed some new deals, more info about that will follow soon!

Mediabistro.com bought by Jupitermedia for 23 mio.

The figures, 20 mio cash out and an additional 3 mio spread over 2 years.

According to Lexa over 70% users are US based.

The traffic graph shows a slightly trend down.
Average users around 8.000.

Sounds like a pretty good deal.

How about Ning, the story continues.
is it really an interesting big one or will it die slowly.
For now they will go on for a wile after just getting 44 million dollar of funding.
44 mio??. the 44 is set against a value of 144 mio dollar. 25% of the company for 44 mio.

What will become of this site?

The Indian Market

We see more and more movement towards the "great" new markets like India.

Yesterday Mashable posted about Google and Yahoo both try to acquire the social sharing site Rediff

Rediff is the No. 5 Indian web portal. It is the only India-based website to appear in first 100 websites

here the alexa rankings

An interesting move to the indian market. The question now is who will make the deal, Google of Yahoo.
Wait and see!!

To promote the event a little more and of course their own company Fleck.com they took the plane to San Francisco and promoted their event.
In white suits they went to the parties, had meetings with the Internet companies, entrepeneurs and all kinds of interesting people!
